1st Performance at the Devizes Festival on Mon. 11th June 2001

then will be played on tour in United States and Australia
Programme. note:
In my mind I see the work based on an abstract Japanese No Play.
There are four recognisable sections,which correspond to the Sashi
(recitation), Uta (songs), Rongi (debate), and the Kiri (chorus/cadences)
of the No Plays, but they do not describe a particular Action or illustrate
a particular Story. They attempt, rather, to illuminate the Abstract in
brief, sonorous and simple musical statements.
Also in my mind were some words of the Desiderata (1692) from the Old St.
Paul's Church, Baltimore : " Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and
remember what peace there may be in silence ".
